Club América dominated for long stretches at Estadio Banorte on Saturday, 25 July 2026, but had to settle for a 1-1 draw against an Atlante side that refused to fold. América went in front before the break and looked the sharper team throughout, piling forward with wave after wave of attacks, yet Atlante stood firm defensively and grabbed a leveller to send the home fans away happy. América finished with the lion's share of the ball and by far the greater number of chances, but final touches let them down when it mattered. The real story of the night was Óscar Jiménez. His performance for Atlante earned him the man of the match award, and it was easy to see why watching him work through the middle, breaking up play and springing counters almost single-handedly. América will wonder how they didn't take all three points given the pressure they applied, but a point on the road keeps things ticking over. For Atlante, it's a battling result against tougher opposition, built almost entirely on grit and one outstanding individual display.
The Matchup
It finished 1-1 between Atlante and Club América at Estadio Banorte, a scoreline that summed up a game short on clear separation between the two sides. Neither team could really take control of the ball for long, with Atlante holding 38% possession, close enough to an even split to explain why the game never settled into one side's favour. There were spells of pressure from both teams, but not enough to turn a share of the points into all three. Days like this are part of a long season, and how each side responds in their next fixture will say plenty about their form heading forward. Here is a closer look at how the two teams compared statistically.
