RCD Espanyol de Barcelona

About RCD Espanyol de Barcelona

RCD Espanyol have been a fixture of Barcelona football for over a century, founded in 1900 and based at the RCDE Stadium. They've carved out their own identity in a city dominated by one giant, representing a different side of the Catalan capital and building a loyal following over generations. The club has always had to work harder than most just to get noticed, but that's given Espanyol a particular character and resilience.

Their trophy cabinet tells a story of consistent quality without ever quite reaching the very top. The Copa del Rey has been their main stage—they've won it four times, lifting the trophy in 1928-29, 1940, 1999-2000, and 2005-06. They've also claimed the Segunda División on two occasions, in 1993-94 and 2020-21, showing they can compete and overcome setbacks. La Liga has eluded them, as have the major European honours, though they've come close in Europe; they reached the UEFA Cup final twice, in 1988 and 2007, but fell short both times. For a club of Espanyol's stature, that's a respectable record, even if it doesn't quite match the silverware their more celebrated neighbours have accumulated.

Head Coach

Manolo González

Manolo González took over as Espanyol's first-team manager in March 2024, having spent the previous season in charge of the club's B team. The Spanish coach earned a new deal through 2027 in July 2025, signalling the board's confidence in his project at the club.
