About Real Sociedad de Futbol
Real Sociedad was founded in 1909 in San Sebastián, establishing itself as one of the Basque Country's most significant football institutions. The club has called the Reale Arena home, where generations of supporters have watched their side compete at the highest level of Spanish football.
The club's greatest period came in the early 1980s, when they won back-to-back La Liga titles in 1980-81 and 1981-82. That same era saw them add the Supercopa de España in 1982, cementing their place among Spain's elite. Beyond those peak years, Sociedad has enjoyed success in the Copa del Rey, winning the competition on four occasions—first in 1909, then much later in 1986-87, 2019-20, and 2025-26.
What sets Real Sociedad apart is their identity within Basque football culture. They've remained a pillar of the region throughout their history, competing consistently in La Liga and developing a reputation for attractive, skillful play. While major silverware has been relatively scarce since their 1980s dominance, the club continues to be respected as one of Spain's traditional powers and a significant force in European football.

Sergio Francisco
Pellegrino Matarazzo took over as Real Sociedad manager in December 2025, bringing American experience to the San Sebastián club. The appointment came after a spell in charge of Hoffenheim during the 2023-24 season.
