About Málaga Club de Fútbol, S.A.D.

Down on the Costa del Sol, Málaga CF have been part of the local fabric since 1948. The club plays its football at La Rosaleda, a ground that's seen plenty of ups and downs over the decades, and remains the beating heart of football in the city. There's something about a club like this - not one of Spanish football's giants, but a proper, well-supported team with a fiercely loyal fanbase who turn out regardless of what division they're in.

The trophy cabinet isn't overflowing, but what's there tells the story of a club that's had to work its way up through the divisions more than once. Their biggest moment domestically came in 1998-99, when they won the Segunda División title and secured passage into the top flight. The season before that, they'd already shown their promotion credentials by lifting the Segunda División B title in 1997-98 - back-to-back triumphs that took them from the third tier to La Liga in the space of two years.

Further back, Málaga also picked up three Tercera División titles, in 1963-64, 1992-93 and 1994-95, spread across different eras of the club's existence. Those lower-league wins might not grab headlines outside Andalusia, but they're part of the fabric of a club that's had to fight for everything it's achieved, rebuilding time and again while La Rosaleda kept the faith.

Head Coach

Sergio Pellicer

Juan Francisco Funes took charge of Málaga's first team in November 2025 after spending five years building the club's reserve side, Atlético Malagueño. His promotion from within came after guiding that team to promotion to Segunda Federación. The Spanish coach now faces the challenge of applying that experience at senior level.
