About Ipswich Town Football Club

Ipswich Town Football Club was founded in 1878 and has made Portman Road their home ever since. The club grew out of the Suffolk town's football culture and has been a fixture of English football for well over a century, serving as a focal point for the local community through changing times.

The club's greatest period came in the early 1960s. They won the Second Division in 1960-61 before stepping up to claim the First Division title the following season in 1961-62. That success set the tone for an ambitious club that would go on to win the Second Division again in 1967-68. Success came in cup competitions too—they lifted the FA Cup in 1977-78 and followed that with a memorable UEFA Cup victory in 1980-81, a genuine high point in the club's European history. They also won the Texaco Cup in 1972-73.

Before their rise through the divisions, Ipswich had established themselves lower down the pyramid, winning the Third Division South title twice, in 1953-54 and 1956-57. While the trophy cabinet hasn't been filled in recent decades, those earlier achievements remain central to Ipswich's identity as a club with genuine pedigree and history.
