About Rayo Vallecano de Madrid
Rayo Vallecano was founded in 1924 and has made its home in the working-class neighbourhood of Vallecas in Madrid, establishing itself as a fixture of Spanish football for nearly a century. The club plays at the Campo de Futbol de Vallecas, which has been central to the identity of a side known for punching above its weight and maintaining a fierce competitive spirit despite operating without the resources of Madrid's bigger clubs.
Success at the highest level has proven elusive for Rayo. They've never lifted La Liga or won the Copa del Rey, the two major domestic honours, though their ambitions reached a European stage more recently. The club won the Segunda División in 2017-18, claiming the second-tier title and securing promotion back to the top flight. More remarkably, Rayo made it all the way to the UEFA Conference League final in 2025-26, where they came agonizingly close to claiming their first major European trophy. They fell to Crystal Palace in the final, losing 1-0 in what represented both a remarkable achievement and a missed opportunity to write a genuinely historic chapter in the club's story.
Head Coach
Iñigo Pérez
Beñat San José took over as Rayo Vallecano head coach in June 2026, arriving from SD Eibar where he spent just over a year in charge. The San Sebastián native will be looking to make an impact at the Madrid club after his spell in the Basque Country.
