About Getafe CF
Getafe CF emerged in 1983 as part of the suburban sprawl south of Madrid, a town with ambitions to match those of its bigger neighbours. The club built their identity in the lower divisions, grinding away in the Spanish football pyramid for years before establishing themselves as a genuine force. Their home at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez became a fortress, a place where visiting teams knew they'd have to work for anything they could get.
The club's first real moment came in 1998-99 when they claimed the Segunda División B title, finally breaking through to the next level and signalling they were ready to compete higher up. That success planted the seeds for what would follow. Getafe proved they belonged, and by the mid-2000s they were mixing it with Spain's elite. They reached the Copa del Rey final twice in consecutive seasons—2006-07 and 2007-08—but fell short both times, runners-up medals representing near-misses rather than triumphs. They've never won La Liga or captured a major European trophy, but what Getafe built was respectable enough: a small-town club that earned its place at the top table through sheer determination and consistency.
Head Coach
José Bordalás
José Bordalás returned to manage Getafe in late April 2023, taking over a club he had previously led from 2016 to 2021. The Spanish coach arrived after a spell in charge of Valencia during the 2021-22 season.
