Göztepe dominated possession and territory at the Gürsel Aksel Stadium but couldn't find the breakthrough, ultimately falling to a 0-1 defeat against Gençlerbirliği. The home side had the better of things throughout, putting 16 shots at goal with six on target, yet the visitors' stubborn defensive display kept them in it. A goalless first half gave way to a second-period breakthrough that proved decisive, with Gençlerbirliği making their chances count when it mattered most. İrfan Can Eğribayat was the standout performer for the visitors, putting in a commanding display that earned him a perfect 10/10 rating. His influence helped keep Göztepe at bay despite their relentless pressure, which saw them rack up six corners in their search for an equaliser. It's a frustrating result for the hosts, who created enough chances to win comfortably, but football isn't always about who plays the better game.
The Matchup
Göztepe 0-1 Gençlerbirliği was the final score at Gursel Aksel Stadium, in a game where Gençlerbirliği did enough across the ninety minutes to deserve the three points. Even without the extra share of possession, which finished 51% in favour of Göztepe, Gençlerbirliği made the most of the chances that mattered and did enough to see the game out. The shot count told a similar story, with 16 attempts from Göztepe against 10 from Gençlerbirliği over the course of the game. It was not always comfortable for Gençlerbirliği, and Göztepe pushed for a way back into the game, but the result stood.
