Freiburg made light work of Werder Bremen at the Europa-Park Stadion on Sunday, 30 August 2026, running out 4-1 winners in a match that was effectively over by half-time. The hosts led 2-0 at the break and never looked troubled after that, piling on chances throughout with 19 shots to Bremen's 9. Yuito Suzuki was at the heart of everything good about Freiburg's afternoon, picking up the man of the match award with a rating of 9.5 that barely does justice to how much he ran the show. Bremen had their moments, five corners and a handful of shots on target showing they weren't there just to make up the numbers, but the gulf in quality told in the end. For Freiburg, this is the kind of result that settles nerves early in the season and gives real belief going forward. Bremen, on the other hand, will need to find answers quickly after a 4-1 defeat that exposed plenty of gaps at both ends of the pitch.
The Matchup
Freiburg 4-1 Werder Bremen was the final score at Europa-Park Stadion, in a game where Freiburg did enough across the ninety minutes to deserve the three points. Freiburg also had the better share of the ball, holding 53% possession, which usually goes hand in hand with the extra control a winning side tends to show. The shot count told a similar story, with 19 attempts from Freiburg against 9 from Werder Bremen over the course of the game. It was not always comfortable for Freiburg, and Werder Bremen pushed for a way back into the game, but the result stood. Games like this can carry real weight later in the season, so this is a scoreline worth remembering. Below is a closer look at how the match broke down, statistically.
