Hoffenheim had all the early momentum at the PreZero Arena on Saturday, 5 September 2026, and deservedly led 1-0 at the break after piling forward with 10 corners to Dortmund's 3 in the first half alone. The hosts kept dominating territory after the restart too, finishing with 18 shots to Dortmund's 11, but football doesn't always reward the team doing the pressing. Dortmund found another gear when it mattered and turned the game on its head. S. Guirassy was at the heart of it, capping a man-of-the-match display worth 8.87 as Dortmund fought back to win 2-3 despite seeing far less of the ball. It's the kind of away result that can define a season - clinical, ruthless, and taken from a side who barely had a foothold in the game for long spells. Hoffenheim will be sick about it, having done so much right without getting the reward.
The Matchup
Borussia Dortmund beat Hoffenheim 2-3 at PreZero Arena, and the numbers from the match back up how the game played out. Even without the extra share of possession, which finished 60% in favour of Hoffenheim, Borussia Dortmund made the most of the chances that mattered and did enough to see the game out. The shot count told a similar story, with 18 attempts from Hoffenheim against 11 from Borussia Dortmund over the course of the game. Hoffenheim had their moments and did not make it easy from start to finish, but ultimately came up short on the day. Small margins like this one tend to add up over a season, and results such as this are often what separates teams in the table further down the line. Here is a closer look at exactly how the two sides compared, statistically.
