Seven goals and not a dull minute of it at Mewa Arena on Saturday, 10 October 2026, as Bayer Leverkusen edged a thriller 3-4 away at Mainz 05. The hosts matched the visitors blow for blow in a wild opening period, going in level at 2-2 at the break after trading punches throughout. Mainz looked lively and full of intent, but Leverkusen always had an answer whenever the home side threatened to seize control. The second half brought no let-up, and it was the visitors who found the extra edge when it mattered, scoring twice more to Mainz's single reply down the stretch. For Leverkusen, it's the kind of away day that builds belief, a gritty response after being pegged back early on. Mainz will be gutted to come away with nothing after matching one of the league's bigger sides for long spells, but games this open can turn on the smallest details, and this time they fell the wrong side of them.
