Sparta Rotterdam and PEC Zwolle shared the points in a lively 2-2 draw at Sparta-Stadion Het Kasteel on Friday, 4 September 2026. The home side led at the break after a scrappy first-half exchange, going in 1-1 at half-time before both teams traded blows again after the restart. Sparta dominated territory for long spells, racking up 15 corners to Zwolle's 4, and their pressure told in the chances created, but they couldn't find a way through for the winner. The star of the show was M. Zonneveld, whose performance for Sparta earned him the man of the match award with an 8.54 rating. He was at the heart of everything good the home side did, even if it wasn't enough to get all three points. Sparta will feel they should have won it given they had 21 shots to Zwolle's 15, but Zwolle's resilience away from home means they leave Rotterdam with a fair result. Neither side moves far in the table, but there'll be plenty to work on before the next round of fixtures.
The Matchup
It finished 2-2 between Sparta Rotterdam and PEC Zwolle at Sparta-Stadion Het Kasteel, a scoreline that summed up a game short on clear separation between the two sides. Neither team could really take control of the ball for long, with Sparta Rotterdam holding 56% possession, close enough to an even split to explain why the game never settled into one side's favour. There were spells of pressure from both teams, but not enough to turn a share of the points into all three. Days like this are part of a long season, and how each side responds in their next fixture will say plenty about their form heading forward. Here is a closer look at how the two teams compared statistically.
