Ajax were held to a 1-1 draw by NEC Nijmegen at the Johan Cruijff Arena on Saturday, 10 October 2026, in a game that never quite let either side settle. The home crowd would have expected more control than they got, and NEC made them work for every inch. Chances came and went at both ends, and neither keeper could claim a quiet afternoon. The point leaves Ajax short of the result they'll have wanted on home soil, while NEC will be the happier of the two sides coming away from Amsterdam with something to show for their efforts. A 1-1 scoreline flatters neither team's ambitions this season, but for NEC it's a solid away return, and for Ajax it's two points dropped in front of their own fans. Neither side will be fully satisfied, and both will have plenty to work on before their next outing.
The Matchup
Ajax and NEC Nijmegen drew 1-1 at Johan Cruijff Arena, in a game that could easily have finished either way. It was an even contest for large parts of the afternoon, with neither team able to take control of the game for long. Both sides had spells on top without ever pulling clear, and the shot count on the day backs up just how tight things were. A draw is rarely the result either team sets out to get, but on this occasion it was a fair reflection of ninety minutes where chances were shared roughly evenly. Below is a closer look at exactly how the numbers from the match broke down.
