Atlanta United dominated possession at Mercedes-Benz Stadium but couldn't find a way through DC United's stubborn defense in a goalless stalemate. The hosts controlled the ball for long stretches and had the better chances, with three shots on target compared to their visitors' one. Enea Mihaj was a bright spot for Atlanta, earning man of the match honors with his solid defensive work keeping DC at bay. The 0-0 draw won't satisfy either side, though Atlanta will rue the missed opportunities. DC United came to defend and largely succeeded, absorbing pressure and even earning more corner kicks despite seeing far less of the ball. It's the kind of result that feels like a missed chance for Atlanta but a point gained for the away side, leaving both teams to reflect on what might have been.
The Matchup
Atlanta United FC and DC United drew 0-0 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, in a game that could easily have finished either way. Neither team could really take control of the ball for long, with Atlanta United FC holding 71% possession, close enough to an even split to explain why the game never settled into one side's favour. Both sides had spells on top without ever pulling clear, and the shot count on the day backs up just how tight things were. A draw is rarely the result either team sets out to get, but on this occasion it was a fair reflection of ninety minutes where chances were shared roughly evenly. Below is a closer look at exactly how the numbers from the match broke down.
