Toronto FC looked to be heading for a frustrating afternoon after falling behind early, but they staged a stirring comeback to rescue a 3-3 draw against Philadelphia at BMO Field. The hosts dominated possession and pieced together some slick attacking play, with Josh Sargent leading the line impressively for Toronto. His tireless work earned him the Man of the Match award as he terrorized the Union defense throughout. It was a mad game that swung back and forth. Philadelphia went in ahead at the break despite seeing less of the ball, but Toronto clawed their way back into it after the interval. Both sides had chances to win it and neither could quite finish the job. The point keeps Toronto in the mix but they'll feel they should've taken all three given how much they controlled the game.
The Matchup
It finished 3-3 between Toronto FC and Philadelphia Union at BMO Field, a scoreline that summed up a game short on clear separation between the two sides. Neither team could really take control of the ball for long, with Toronto FC holding 64% possession, close enough to an even split to explain why the game never settled into one side's favour. There were spells of pressure from both teams, but not enough to turn a share of the points into all three. Days like this are part of a long season, and how each side responds in their next fixture will say plenty about their form heading forward. Here is a closer look at how the two teams compared statistically.
