Minnesota United and Vancouver battled to a goalless draw at Allianz Field in a match that never quite caught fire despite both sides having their chances. The Whitecaps controlled the tempo with 64 percent possession, though neither team could find the breakthrough. Minnesota had the better of the territorial play in their own right, earning five corner kicks to Vancouver's two, but couldn't make it count with just three efforts on target compared to their visitors' five. Yohei Takaoka was the standout performer for Vancouver, keeping his side in it with several important saves to earn the man of the match honors. A 0-0 draw leaves both teams with work to do, but for Vancouver it feels like a point gained on the road, while Minnesota will feel they should have done more with their opportunities at home.
The Matchup
Minnesota United FC and Vancouver Whitecaps drew 0-0 at Allianz Field, in a game that could easily have finished either way. Neither team could really take control of the ball for long, with Minnesota United FC holding 36% possession, close enough to an even split to explain why the game never settled into one side's favour. Both sides had spells on top without ever pulling clear, and the shot count on the day backs up just how tight things were. A draw is rarely the result either team sets out to get, but on this occasion it was a fair reflection of ninety minutes where chances were shared roughly evenly. Below is a closer look at exactly how the numbers from the match broke down.
