Colorado dominated possession and territory at Dick's Sporting Goods Park but had to wait until late to break through Austin's stubborn defense. The Rapids controlled the game from start to finish, racking up 24 shots and 11 corners, yet couldn't find the back of the net in a goalless first half. When the breakthrough finally came, it proved enough to secure the 1-0 victory and three points for the home side. Brad Stuver was named man of the match after a commanding display between the posts for the visitors. The Austin keeper made crucial saves to keep his side in it when Colorado was throwing everything forward, and he frustrated the Rapids attack with a string of important stops. It wasn't enough to earn a result, but Stuver's performance ensured this remained a competitive affair rather than a complete rout.
