Sporting Kansas City came from behind to grab a point against St. Louis City SC at Children's Mercy Park, but there was frustration in the final whistle for the home side. St. Louis struck first to lead at the break, but Kansas City clawed back in the second half to level things at 1-1. The hosts dominated possession and peppered the visitors with chances, registering 18 shots and nine corners, though only three found the target. It wasn't enough to break through a stubborn St. Louis defence that weathered the storm with just seven attempts of their own. Eduard Löwen was the standout performer for the visitors, earning Man of the Match honours with a display that kept Kansas City at bay despite the relentless pressure. The draw leaves both sides with something to work on—Kansas City will rue their inability to make their superiority count, while St. Louis can take heart from a disciplined defensive showing against a side that came at them hard for long stretches.
The Matchup
Sporting Kansas City and St. Louis City SC drew 1-1 at Children's Mercy Park, in a game that could easily have finished either way. Neither team could really take control of the ball for long, with Sporting Kansas City holding 49% possession, close enough to an even split to explain why the game never settled into one side's favour. Both sides had spells on top without ever pulling clear, and the shot count on the day backs up just how tight things were. A draw is rarely the result either team sets out to get, but on this occasion it was a fair reflection of ninety minutes where chances were shared roughly evenly. Below is a closer look at exactly how the numbers from the match broke down.
